Top 10 most ridiculous excuses for calling in sick

Just when you though you've heard every excuse under the sun, along comes CareerBuilder's list of "The Most Unbelievable Excuses for Calling in Sick." This top 10 list was based off of a Harris poll that gathered the responses of around 3,000 workers and 2,000 managers and deciphered the most creative and unbelievable excuses workers used to call in sick.

CareerBuilder also noted that 28% of employees surveyed have called in sick even though they weren't, with common reasons being they wanted the day to relax, they wanted to catch up on sleep, and sometimes they just didn't feel like going in. This hasn't stopped managers though from keeping a close eye on their employees' activities during sick days, with 31% of managers surveyed saying they have checked in on whether their employees were telling the truth. 24% of employers state they have caught an employee lying about being sick by checking their social media profiles.

Calling in sick when you are not has always been a risky move, but reasonable workers know that using an excuse like "my kid has the flu so I have to stay home" or "my car won't start and I have no way of getting in" have always been reliable favorites. Or, you could just simply say that you're sick instead of going to great lengths to think up a suitable excuse to stay home. But saying you have to miss work for "plastic surgery" or because you "got caught in a blood testing machine" are far too outrageous to be taken seriously.
