How far would you go to sell a junker of a car?

David Johns knows his answer. The digital guru has created a website and a flashy YouTube video to sell his 1999 Holden Barina. It's a car that looks a lot like the the Geo Metro.

Johns is really trying to sell the car, putting up all the stats you need to know about the vehicle on his website, buymybarina.com. The car includes:

  • An auto-stop cassette player
  • An internal fan
  • Three interchangeable hubcabs
  • A manual tranmission with a reverse gear
  • 0-60kmph? Yes.

Johns told news.com.au that his ad isn't a joke. He is actually, legitimately trying to sell his old car.

"I wanted it to get noticed," said Johns. "There's so much competition for selling used cars I wanted to do something clever."

The offers have been pouring in on Twitter. Johns says he's got a couple of legitimate offers for cash, but most of the ones with the hashtag #buymyburina offer other forms of payment.

  • #BuyMyBarina I will trade you 100 fresh chicken mcnuggets for the Barina. I am willing to negotitate on sauces. Josh (@popow) July 15, 2014
  • I've got a half eaten Mars bar and I'll let you play with my cat for five minutes but you're not allowed to call its name #buymybarina Malcolm Gordon (@malgordon) July 15, 2014
  • My offer: 40 gallons of unicorn tears, a basket of space kittens, one partially eaten Slim Jim, plus all the change in my sofa #buymybarina Bart Comstock (@SvrWxChaser) July 14, 2014

Johns says he spent about five times what the car is worth to create the website and video, but he says it is all worth it.

"Why would I spend $8000 doing work to sell a car worth $1-2000?" Johns told news.com.au. "Honestly because I had the time and I just wanted to show off my skills."
