Vigil held for man gunned down at southeast Houston apartment complex

HOUSTON

Standing next to a makeshift grave site and clutching candles, those who knew Demarcus Harrison best honored him.

"He was always smiling," one attendee said.

The 20-year-old was gunned down Wednesday just a few feet away from where his father created a unique memorial Friday evening.

"He passed right here, we wanted to keep his soul, his body here forever," Harrison's father Anthony Callis said.

Dozens of friends and relatives attended the vigil on the same day Louis Anthony III was in court. Anthony is charged in connection to this dangerous ride as Houston police investigated Harrison's murder. He's also the father of Louis Anthony IV, a person of interest in the case. Eyewitnesses say Anthony III just lost it.

"Very disrespectful. My son out there laying in the street and all this other chaos going on out here, not giving a chance to mourn," Anthony Callis said.

It was the latest violence for this family. Harrison's grandfather Paul Callis showed us a bullet hole from a drive-by shooting the day before his grandson's murder. The young man lived with him, and he believes the gunfire was a warning.

"They shot the house up and the next day they came up and that happened," Paul Callis said.

Police did respond to the drive-by shooting.

Houston Police are still looking for Anthony IV.
