Wild scene at murder investigation when car careens into crowd

HOUSTON

It happened at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Belarbor. Earlier, a fight among a group of men escalated into a shooting there that killed on person and injured another.

Shortly after, a man identified by witnesses as the alleged shooter's father, jumped into a car and drove into the crowd. Our photographer recorded people diving out of the way. He bailed out while the car was moving and his fiancee, Deshonna Smith, was still in the car.

"I was just screaming 'Jesus!'" Smith said.

Smith says one of victim's family was taunting him. Someone threw a bike at their car and it got more violent from there.

"I see this arm coming into the driver's window, someone has punched him. So that's when he just kind of lost it," Smith said.

Family members identified one of the shooting victims as 20-year-old Demarkus Harrison. They say the 20-year-old was with his girlfriend when he was shot.

"When I go here, he was lying out there on the ground, barely breathing," Harrison's grandfather said.

Harrison died at the scene. The other shooting victim was transported to the hospital in unknown condition.

No one was injured in the car incident, but the driver has been charged with aggravated assault.

Meanwhile, witnesses say the alleged shooter jumped a fence and got away.
