The inspiration for the unofficial holiday actually comes from across the pond.
Back in 1979 when Margaret Thatcher became the first female prime minister of Britain, the "London Evening News" ran a half page ad that read "May the Fourth be with you Maggie. Congratulations."
Star Wars was released 2 years before Thatcher became prime minister.
To celebrate the even in Houston, fans can head over to Space Center Houston for Star Wars-related activities, including a build your own balloon saber.
There will also be a Star Wars panel discussion at noon.
Over on Washington Avenue, you can check out the third annual Star Wars Art Festival. Two different galleries are hosting exhibitions showcasing pieces of original Star Wars art.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science isn't exactly the Mos Eisley Cantina, but it will welcome wookies, jedis, and droids tonight. The Mixers and Elixirs Star Wars event runs from 7pm until 10pm. Costumes are recommended. There is a cash bar and food available, too.
And if you're not a fan of the prequels or the expanded universe, not to worry. The quiz will only cover the three original Star Wars Movie with one question from the Christmas special. The event starts at 6pm at th Baker Street Pub on Morningside.
