A man was shot in his own yard this morning in northwest Houston. He was in his yard when he says two men approached him and tried to rob him.

It happened Friday morning at a home in the Fallbrook subdivision.

Witnesses tell us the homeowner, a man in his 50s, was mowing his lawn when somebody approached him with a gun. Witnesses say the man asked for his wallet. He didn't give it to him and then the suspect shot him in the stomach.

The suspects then fled in a waiting vehicle.

One witness we spoke with said he saw the whole thing and even chased after getaway car. We are disguising his identity because he fears retaliation.

"I didn't try to catch the guy," he said. "I tried to catch the license plate or follow him to see what direction. When the police came, I explained."

The victim is in Ben Taub Hospital. We're told he's in good condition. Police are searching for one, possibly two suspects.
