Local kids reach out to 5-year-old Spring child who was allegedly abused

HOUSTON

This church school project is fun, but for the kids, it's close to their hearts.

"We heard on the news that this little boy, he's very ill and Mrs. Irma, our teacher, is helping us make a card for him," said 7-year-old Leiah Lopez.

So from preschool to junior high, the children are using everything they can to get out a message.

"Our church is praying for him," said Lopez. "That's what I would say."

It was the story about a 5-year-old boy taken from his parents after authorities say he was extremely malnourished and severely underweight with bumps and bruises.

Harris County sheriff's deputies say he was forced to wear a diaper and live in a closet underneath the stairs with no food. The child now in the hospital.

His father, Bradley Bleimeyer, and his stepmother, Tammi Bleimeyer, are now both facing charges of endangering a child.

"Just a human being, you see this stuff and you think how could this happen," said Brenda Paitiak-Lopez with Bethel Baptist Church. "I thought maybe we could do something for him that when he gets better he can feel loved and he can see that people care about him."

With each marker and message, Pastor Jaime Garcia says it's a powerful message to a stronger young boy.

"Our desire is that he will get these cards and just be overjoyed to know that someone's thinking about him," said "There are some kids in the city, in the inner city of Houston that love him and they're praying for him."

Right now, church leaders are working out a plan to get the cards to the 5-year-old. Meanwhile, CPS now has temporary custody of all 6 of the stepmother's children.
