A fast burning garage fire spread to a second building in east Houston overnight.

Firefighters had to call for another fire crew to come out and fight the flames on the second building. The fire started in a two story garage apartment on Latham and Sherman.

The building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived; they were not able to keep the flames from spreading.

"The buildings are pretty close; they're both on the back of the property, there was a lot of fire in the primary structure," said Ricky Hoppas with the Houston Fire Department.

The fire jumped to another apartment on Altic. No one was inside either building and no one was hurt fighting the fire.

It is not clear how the fire started, but arson investigators are being called in due to the sheer size of the fire.
