The project, a joint venture between General Growth Properties, Inc. and the landowner, adds an estimated 555,000 square feet to the 1.2-million-square-foot center.
"Baybrook Mall is nearly 100 percent leased and is located in one of the nation's fastest growing markets. Retailers and restaurants are looking to add new locations in high-quality centers," said Richard Pesin, executive vice president of GGP.
Located on the north side of Baybrook Mall, the 285,000-square-foot expansion connects to the existing property between Forever 21 and Dillard's. A 270,000-square-foot power center completes the project with a variety of big-box anchor tenants, restaurants and family-friendly activity venues. To accommodate the expansion, a single-story parking deck will be added to the property.
In addition to the expansion, planners are adding a grassy lawn area. The lawn, approximately the length of a football field, is intended to serve as a gathering spot for visitors.
Work is set to being in early May with completion by the 2015 holiday season.
