Officers brought Jose Pablo Lopez into the Galveston County Jail Tuesday. Lopez and another man, identified as Elisandro Salinas, are charged with a capital murder from 1993. Lopez was indicted for that killing but then he fled the country.
"At the time he was indicted for the capital murder he fled to Mexico and he's got a 750,000 dollar bond on that charge," Sheriff Henry Trochesset said.
Lopez was arrested last year in Mexico, but was only allowed to be extradited after local authorities agreed not to seek the death penalty.
Salinas has not been located.
