Infant found abandoned in stroller in Harlem

HARLEM, NY

The baby boy was found in a park across from Engine 69 ladder 28, Battalion 16 at 248 W. 143rd Street by a Good Samaritan.

Michael Allen waved down a fire engine as it was returning to the firehouse to tell them about the baby.

"I did what anyone else would do," Allen said.

Allen works to keep the park where the baby was found clean. He often looks out his window at the park to make sure things are okay. That is when Allen saw the stroller, and knew something was not right.

"What is a baby doing out here at this time of the night in the cold?" said Allen, "I couldn't believe my eyes - I needed to come closer to see what was really going on."

The baby was taken by the firefighters into the firehouse, and EMS then came and transported the baby to Harlem Hospital, where he was placed under observation.

Firefighters say the baby was in good shape, was bundled up very well, and was not even crying.

Police are searching for who left the boy out in the cold.
