Deputy constables gathered Saturday to say goodbye to a canine partner who helped them serve the community.

Deputy Greg Thomason patrolled the streets with Ricco for about seven years, catching criminals and seizing thousands of pounds of drugs.

Ricco was recently diagnosed with cancer and Thomason didn't want the 14-year-old dog's leg to be amputated. So Thomason and his colleagues with the Harris County Precinct 4 constable's office met to give Ricco one last hug before putting him to sleep.

"Words can't express the feelings that I'm going through right now,' said Deputy Thomason. "I spent more time working with this dog than I did with my own family while working on the streets."

Ricco was carried out of his home draped in a US flag and received a funeral procession worthy of any law enforcement officer.
