Training drill in medical center will look like SWAT scene

HOUSTON

This training operation will take place completely within the Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI) and will be closed to the public. This exercise will look similar to a SWAT situation. It is a controlled situation that poses no danger to employees, patients or guests of Texas Medical Center institutions.

As part of this training operation, the Harris County Sheriff's Office will be closing the southbound lanes of Bertner Avenue (nearest to the HMRI) to park their vehicles and conduct their scenario. All traffic will be diverted to the northbound lanes of Bertner, with one lane travelling in each direction, for the duration of the exercise.

The exercise is part of the Harris County Sheriff's Office Tactical Medicine Program, a new program designed to better equip their medical providers in providing emergency medical care in hazardous situations.
