Teen fatally shot by girl's father remembered in memorial service in Spring

HOUSTON

Dozens gathered for Johran McCormick's funeral. Friends and relatives consoled one another outside the Spring church on a windy and overcast day.

"Everyone is devastated because something so crazy, so fast can happen," said friend Jaselyn Campos.

Just days ago, they were with their classmate at Klein Collins High School.

"Just knowing that I'm not going to see him again, it's just weird and I don't really know how to react to it," said friend Taylor Fleury.

"He's my friend and I've known him since middle school," said Campos. "We've always been close because he's outgoing and so am I, so we kind of clicked when we met each other."

The scene unfolded Thursday at a home on Bridgestone Ridge in northwest Harris County. Harris County sheriff's deputies say McCormick was inside the home of his alleged 16-year-old girlfriend.

The girl's father heard noises from upstairs and when he found the two, the girl said she didn't know the boy and her father shot and killed him.

But for those here who lost such young friend, they want to remember how he lived.

"He was always making people laugh and a good kid," said Fleury.

A grand jury will decide if the father will be charged.
