HOUSTON

Michelle Jong, 18, a senior at Spring Branch Memorial High School created grand champion work of art, "Reminiscence of Youth," which sold for a whopping $210,000. Jong's portrait showed a mother and daughter in the old west.

"The mother facial expressions are of her remembering when she was her daughter's age," said Jong.

The painting was purchased for $210,000 by Mimi and Tom Dompier, Mary and Ken Hucherson, Kristina and Paul Somerville, and Jennifer and Joe Van Matre. This price ties with 2013 for the world record.

As for the artist, it cements her future plans.
