Man kidnaps, sexually assaults woman in southeast Houston

HOUSTON

It was late night on March 7 in the 8000 block of Broadway. The 20-year-old woman had just arrived home from volunteering and locked the gate behind her when she was greeted by a gun.

Surveillance footage shows the man holding her at gunpoint and making her unlock the gate. He put the gun in his pocket and then casually embraced her as they walked out of camera sight.

What happened next is worse.

"What we've later learned, or what I have from police, is that she was sexually assaulted and robbed," said Jeff McShan with Crime Stoppers.

The sexual assault happened in a secluded area. Houston police hope someone recognizes her attacker. We showed a photo to shoppers nearby.

"I'm scared now," one shopper said.

"They haven't found him? That's crazy," another shopper said.

And his actions give credence to area resident Bianca Forbes' advice.

"Never walk in the neighborhood in the dark by yourself," Forbes said.

The suspect is described as a heavy-set Hispanic man around the age of 25. He is around 5 feet 9 inches tall.

Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston at (713) 222-TIPS (8477).

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for any information called in to the 713-222-TIPS (8477) or submitted online at www.crime-stoppers.org that leads to the filing of felony charges or arrest of the suspect in this case. Tips can also be sent by text message. Text TIP610 plus your tip to CRIMES (274637). All tipsters remain anonymous.
