HCSO: Father shoots male teen inside daughter's bedroom in NW Harris County

HOUSTON

It happened before 2:30am on Bridgestone Ridge near FM 2920.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, a father was alerted by one of his four children that someone was in the house. When the father went to investigate, he found a 17-year-old male inside his 16-year-old daughter's room.

Detectives say the daughter told her father she didn't know the 17-year-old. At some point, there was an altercation and the father fatally shot the 17-year-old male.

Authorities say it appears the male teen was let into the house.

"He does appear to be known to the daughter. He's not a stranger. We don't know if the father knew him or not," said Sgt. Ben Beall with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The student who was killed was a student at nearby Klein Collins High School. The district didn't release his name but issued the following statement:

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to both of the families and all the friends involved in the incident. The district is on spring break but we will have our crisis team available on Monday for our students and staff as needed."

A few hours after the shooting, a family member emerged from the house without comment, then the house was empty. They are said to be new to the neighborhood and they were just settling in. It has their neighbors thinking what they might have done.

"You don't know the thought process when you wake up and have someone in your home. But it's said because it's kids," neighbor Erica Jordan said.

The father was transported to the hospital after suffering a panic attack. No word on his condition.

An investigation is underway. The case will be referred to a grand jury.
