Protesters call for HISD to fire Superintendent Terry Grier

HOUSTON

HISD Superintendent Grier has proposed closing Jones High and Dodson Elementary school, citing low enrollment and poor test scores.

"The kids aren't failing HISD," said parent Travis McGee. "HISD is failing our kids."

But protestors claim closing the schools will hurt students and communities, and bring academic and transportation problems. They point out that both schools are in minority areas.

Originally, the district had planned on closing five schools, but the HISD board president took three off the list after several similar protests.

HISD school board members will take this up for a vote on Thursday.
