Just after 11am, HISD's Dowling Middle School had to be evacuated. Everyone was removed from the building and moved across the street during the incident.
According to HISD's spokesperson, the school nurse and three students had to breathing issues following the gas leak and were taken to a hospital by ambulance.
After about an hour and a half outside, students were allowed back inside the building, into the auditorium. Parents were notified of the situation by phone between 12:30 and 1pm, and were allowed to pick up their children early.
HISD says crews identified the leak, which was off-campus behind the school, and repaired it. School will resume as scheduled on Tuesday.
