Virtual smartphone lets you make calls, texts when your battery dies

AUSTIN

The idea is that once your phone dies, you can log onto your computer or your tablet and use your phone number to make calls and texts. By using any web browser you would also be able to access your contacts. More good news is that it all works while your phone is turned off and doesn't use any of your minutes.

The technology was revealed at South by Southwest this weekend from PPLConnect, USA Today reports. An official launch date is still a few weeks away.

For now, those interested can download the PPLConnect Android app in the Google Play store, but Apple users will have to wait. There is not an iPhone app available yet.
