Cops to get their gun back that was stolen by Dillinger gang

AUBURN, IN

The Star of Auburn reports Auburn Police Chief Martin McCoy is inviting the public to attend Thursday's presentation at the DeKalb County Courthouse.

The gun was stolen on Oct. 14, 1933, along with bulletproof vests, ammunition, and several other firearms. The gun was later recovered by the Tucson Police Department in Arizona and turned over to the FBI.

McCoy says the department is making plans to preserve and display the gun.

Dillinger was born in Indianapolis and became famous as a Depression-era bank robber. He and his gang robbed several banks and police arsenals in Indiana during the 1930s.
