Security experts say users could see a phony webpage that looks like the Netflix login page. When you enter your account info, the scam site claims the account is suspended because of unusual activity, then gives you a fake customer service number.
This is a message one user received:
"We have detected unusual activity on this account. To protect this account from unauthorized use, we have temporarily suspended this username. To regain access to your account please contact member services at 1-800-947-6570."
When the user calls that number, a rep recommends a download of Netflix support software, which is actually remote login software that gives scammers complete access to your computer.
The scammers may also ask for copies of photo IDs, or even credit cards.
The best thing to do is to exit out of the browser window, and do not call the 1-800 number.
