Budweiser, the official beer of Major League Baseball, has started a petition on whitehouse.gov to declare the start of the season a national day of observance.
The hope is to collect 100,000 online signatures, which would require a response from the white house.
Retired Saint Louis Cardinals shortstop Ozzie Smith has thrown in his support and is leading the push.
