Fundraiser held for boy who attempted suicide after being bullied at school for being a fan of 'My Little Pony'

RALEIGH, NC

ABC11 reports that Michael Morones has been in the hospital since he tried to kill himself last month.

His parents say their son hanged himself off the side of his bunk bed after months of relentless bullying over his love for the cartoon "My Little Pony."

The fundraiser on Friday was organized by Michael's church. Family members and friends tell ABC11 the benefit will help pay for Michael's medical bills and long-term care.

He is reportedly doing much better now -- stabilized and out of the intensive care unit.

Once he's able to leave the hospital, Michael will be transferred to another facility that will help with brain trauma and neurologically rehabilitation, ABC11 reports.

The family is also in the process of setting up a foundation that will promote anti-bullying and youth leadership.
