Retired HPD officer killed by alleged drunk driver in Galveston

GALVESTON, TX

The accident happened around 7:40pm on the Seawall Boulevard and 69th Street.

The Galveston Police Department says 61-year-old retired Houston Police Officer Dana Tweedie was riding his motorcycle with his wife and current HPD officer, 52-year-old Linda Tweedie, on the back.

As they were traveling west along Seawall, investigators say 18-year-old Callie Inman pulled out of a parking lot and attempted to turn east on Seawall. According to police, Dana Tweedie had no time to avoid a collision with Inman's car.

Dana and Linda Tweedie were transported to the hospital by Galveston EMS. Dana died from his injuries. Linda is listed as critical.

An investigation led officers to believe that Inman was intoxicated at the time of the accident. She's been arrested and faces charges of intoxication manslaughter.

Inman is currently in police custody, being held on a $150,000 bond.

Dana Tweedie is deep-rooted in the Houston Police Department. His brother, Bill Tweedie, is currently a sergeant there.

Galveston Police Chief Henry Porretto said, "This is a tragic situation that need not occur. An impaired driver took a great member of the Houston community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Tweedie family and the Houston Police Department."

Anyone interested in donating to the Tweedie family's medical or burial expenses may send cash or checks (payable to HPOU) to the Houston Police Officer's Union.
