One dead, one wounded in shooting at home in NW Houston

HOUSTON

Houston police say at least two suspects ran into the small white home, where they shot and killed one of the three people who live there. The suspects quickly escaped.

Neighbors say they have seen numerous shootings and attacks at that home.

"They had shotguns, so one had to jump the fence, then they passed over the shotgun and the other one jumped the fence," said witness Shemica Campbell. "They went in and did what they wanted to do and then they come back out with the shotguns as well."

"It's happened more than one," said witness Paris Fagent. "They just broke his arm like two months ago."

Police have identified the victim as 26-year-old Amides Artiga. Police say Artiga, the mother in the home suffered an arm injury during the home invasion and was taken to the hospital.

Neighbors say Artiga has had brushes with the law before, but they still can't understand why anyone would take a life.

"It's sad," said neighbor Ellen Vernon. "I feel sorry for the mother, she lost her son. I don't know her but it breaks my heart that she's lost her son."

The police investigation is ongoing.
