Dallas officer shot responding to domestic call

DALLAS, TX

Sgt. Shelley Johnston confirmed the officer had been shot Saturday while responding to a call in the northern part of the city. She says he is being treated at Baylor University Medical Center.

The Dallas Police Department later announced on its official Twitter account that Officer Joshua Burns was shot when he approached a suspect, 20-year-old Rakeem Perkins, in his car. Police say that Perkins fled on foot after Burns was shot but later said in an email that Perkins surrendered to police and was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the leg.

Burns is in stable condition and his injuries are not life-threatening.
