A robbery, shootout and chase last night in northwest Houston ended with three suspects in handcuffs. Investigators say the suspects shot at a Houston police officer who caught them in the middle of a robbery.

It started at a Family Dollar store on TC Jester near West Little York. Police say a trio of men robbed the business and several customers.

Just as the men were running out of the store, a Houston police officer pulled up. That's when one of the suspects started shooting.

"He was immediately fired upon at that time by one of the suspects," said John Cannon with the Houston Police Department. "The officer returned fire and pursued the individuals on foot."

The officers chased the men until they jumped over a fence and disappeared, but a K-9 unit tracked them all down.

Police say they did find a weapon and property taken from the Family Dollar store, and now investigators are checking to see if the men are linked to other robberies in the area.
