Harris County commissioners get 11 percent salary increase

HOUSTON

The new budget calls for commissioners to get paid $165, 900 per year. That's up from about $149,000 annually.

Judge Ed Emmett, whose salary is tied to state judge salaries across the state and not connected with the county's budget, says he supports the increase in pay.

"Commissioners' salaries don't get adjusted very often, it's just a once in a decade kind of thing, so this was the time to do that," said Judge Emmett.

The new budget goes into effect on March 1.
