Cypress area family's killing last month leaves community scared

CYPRESS, TX

Inside the Coles Crossing Community Center, detectives and officers answered questions from concerned residents about the horrifying murder of a family of four that remains a mystery.

"It was, I guess you could say the general concerns they had in reference to -- is it something the family was involved in," said community safety coordinator Ronnie Lopez.

"They were very forthcoming in letting folks know what they could respond to and what they couldn't and there was no feeling that they were holding anything back that we should know about," said resident Larry Cross.

But still, no motive, and no suspect in the deaths of Maoye Sun, his wife Mei Xie, and their two boys. A family friend today shared photos from a happier time, a Cub Scout camping trip, the family smiling and eating pizza.

All four members of the Sun family were found shot to death in their home on January 30.

"It's very troublesome that it happened in our community because this is a good community, our neighbors look out for each other, and it's very sad that it happened," said resident Brenda Idol

Though detectives couldn't give a lot of specifics about the case, they offered tips on how community members can be more vigilant, and how they can protect themselves in their homes, with a murder suspect still unaccounted for.

"Would I like to see somebody caught yesterday, yes sir, but as far as what the homicide detectives are doing, I have no doubt in my mind they're spending as many hours as they can on this case," said Idol.

Homicide detectives declined our request for an interview. If you have any information on this case, you're being asked to call authorities.
