Church member to help girl in need of new kidney in North Carolina

MOORE COUNTY, NC

Jennifer Trapp, a 31-year-old mother of three, goes to the same church as nine-year-old Evie Wentz. When she heard about Evie's need, she volunteered to donate one of her kidneys, ABC11 in Raleigh-Durham reports.

Evie is connected to a dialysis machine for about 10 hours every day. She's been battling kidney failure since she was first rushed to the hospital with symptoms in December 2012.

When the girl's family told their church that Evie was in need of a new kidney, Trapp was the first to volunteer.

The family has raised about half of the $45,000 needed for Evie's medical expenses through fundraisers and online donations. More fundraisers are planned before the Feb. 18 transplant surgery.
