Police warn about ID thieves targeting women's purses left in cars

FRIENDSWOOD, TX

Those crooks are being called the Felony Lane Gang. Friendswood police say the thieves are busy cruising the parking lots at local parks, daycare centers and churches. They're targeting women who are leaving purses and bags in their vehicles for a short time as they're handling business at those locations.

Police call it a crime of opportunity, and say the thieves typically try accessing bank accounts using their victims' stolen cards.

We've learned police in Friendswood and League City have been monitoring similar burglaries outside daycare centers for a couple of weeks now. They say in some of those cases, the victims also left their car doors unlocked.

Residents are warned to pay close attention to their surroundings, and not leave valuables in an accessible location.
