Authorities: Man raped, attacked woman with hammer during robbery in Midtown

HOUSTON

Joseph Terol Ford is charged with aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robbery in connection to the January 20 attack.

Authorities say the victim had been dropped off by cab in the 2500 block of La Branch right before she was attacked. According to charging documents, Ford beat the woman and struck her with a hammer, and also raped her.

Investigators say he allegedly stole her phone before he took off. The woman was found bloody and naked, stumbling in the street around McGowen and Fannin.

Detectives say Ford was not in a relationship with the victim, but the case may be drug related.

Ford was arrested Monday, and bail was set at $50,000 for each charge. Court documents state his criminal history includes a 1999 conviction for burglary of a habitation.
