Funeral plans changed for Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders

GOLDSBORO, N.C.

Winders died unexpectedly at his home Friday morning - apparently from a massive heart attack.

Wayne County's top lawman was just 57.

Sheriff Winders' body is lying in state at Shumate-Faulk funeral home Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00a.m. until 1:00p.m.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday at 2:00p.m. in the Kornegay Arena at Mount Olive College in Mount Olive, North Carolina. Burial will follow in the Wayne Memorial Park with Sheriff's Honors provided by the Wayne County Sheriff's Honor Guard, followed by Masonic Rites. Family members will greet friends on Tuesday night, January 28, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Faith Free Will Baptist Church located at 1200 West Grantham Street Goldsboro, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Union Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church at 1283 Union Grove Church Road, Fremont, NC 27830 OR to the Wounded Warrior Projects located at 4200 Morganton Road, Suite 300, Fayetteville, NC 28314.
