The penalty phase begins Friday in Beaumont for 32-year-old Stephen Odom. A Jefferson County jury on Thursday night convicted Odom of felony injury to a child related to the January 2012 death of Jakyra Henderson.
A medical examiner determined the girl died of blunt force trauma to the abdomen. Beaumont police say it appeared someone stomped on the girl.
Odom earlier Thursday disputed the medical findings and testified he never struck the girl.
