Free fun this weekend for the entire family

HOUSTON

Houston is ready for the Chevron Marathon and over at Discovery Green the pre-party starts Saturday at 5:30am to 10:30am and starts back up on Sunday from 4am to 2pm. The event will showcase a number of local vendors and is free to attend. Stay till the end to celebrate with friends, family and runners after they cross the finish line.

Monday we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with the MLK parade downtown at Hamilton and Texas starting at 10am the parade will end at Discovery Green. After the parade head to the Green and take part in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the march on D.C. and the civil rights act of 1964 with a free day of activities and performances.

At Discovery Green tonight its the Friday night flicks on the ice movie series. Tonights movie is the family friendly, 'Chronicles of Narnia,' the lion the witch and the wardrobe. The movie starts at 6:30pm and will be facing the ice but you can bring chairs and blankets to sit on the white promenade or lake house deck as well. The movie is free but skating fees will apply.

If you are thinking of adding a pet to your family now is the perfect time with free cat and dog adoptions at the Citizens for Animal Protections offices on the the Katy Freeway. This Saturday from 11am to 6pm and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm there will be an open house were family can come choose a rescue pet and get all adoption fees waved.

Today is the last day to sign up for a free "Pop Star" treat from Edible Arrangments. Just head over to Ediblearrangments.com and register your email to recieve the free coupon for one free dipped pineapple pop that you can pick up in your local edible arrangements store through January 21.

Help celebrate the one year annivesary of "Blacksmith Coffee Shop" on Westhiemer with a free espresso and BBQ. The all day celebration begins on Tuesday at 7am and all customers will get a free shot of expresso, after 5pm there will be free bbq sandwiches and other refreshments. Take a chance and join the competition with baristas from around the city with a latte art competition. Blacksmith is asking everyone attending to RSVP on Facebook.
