Authorities are investigating a deadly hit-and-run accident in east Harris County, and now a driver is facing charges.

Sheriff's deputies were called out to the 15200 block of Woodforest near Onaleigh, where they found a woman who had been hit by a vehicle while she was crossing the street.

Witnesses told deputies the truck that hit her was a Dodge pickup that was traveling east on Woodforest.

"The female that was struck was crossing the roadway. According to witnesses, the truck sped up, hit the female," said Deputy D. Wilkie with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "She is deceased here at the scene. The truck fled the scene."

Deputies say the truck involved was a blue Dodge quad cab. The truck's license plate was left behind at the scene. Erik Garza, 28, surrendered to the Harris County Sheriff's Office Thursday morning. He is charged with failure to stop and render aid.
