Brightening the holiday for underprivileged kids

December 20, 2013 7:36:39 AM PST
People lined up downtown this morning for free toys.

It's part of the annual Toys for Tots giveaway over at the GRB. But not everyone can get those free toys. The families are pre-selected.

The annual giveaway provides toys for about 25,000 underprivileged kids in the Houston area. The event is put together by the Houston Children's Charity in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps reserves.

Parents filled out applications to receive up to three toys for their kids. The George R Brown Convention Center donated the space for the giveaway.

The event started at 8:30am and runs all day. Thousands of kids will have a couple more presents under the tree because of it.
