Southwest Houston apartments evacuated during two-alarm fire overnight

HOUSTON

The flames broke out at the Lodge at West Oaks apartments off Richmond and Wilcrest. People living at the 24 apartments that were affected by the fire were all evacuated.

Fire officials say most of the fire was coming from the chimney area when they arrived, but they don't know how the fire initially started.

We're told a person driving by saw flames coming from the roof of the three-story apartment building and called for help. As soon as firefighters arrived, they evacuated the entire building.

"I had a gentleman warn us there was a fire in the building, so I got my family up and went outside and saw fire on the roof," resident Harley Hendrix told us.

About 40 firefighters responded and were able to get the fire under control. One apartment has a lot of fire damage, that apartment being the one where the fire initially started. Other units in this building have water and smoke damage.

No one was injured.
