Methodist: Personal info of 1,300 transplant patients stolen

The hospital says included in the information are names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and some medical information.

The personal information of around 1,300 transplant patients is missing after a laptop and paper files were stolen, according to a statement from Methodist Hospital. Hospital officials noticed the items were missing on Thursday.

The hospital says included in the information are names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and some medical information.

Hospital officials contacted the Houston Police Department and now an investigation is underway. The incident is also being reported to the Department of Health and Human Services.

According to the hospital, they're contacting the patients and offering one-year free subscription to an ID theft prevention service.
