Detectives investigating double shooting at home near Pearland

HOUSTON

Pearland Police Department spokesperson Lt. Onesimo Lopez says the shooting happened just after 3pm at a home in the 2400 block of Woodbury at Northfork Drive, just outside of the Pearland city limits.

Authorities say a man shot his ex-wife several times in the lower part of her body before turning the gun on himself, committing suicide.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman was transported via LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. We're told she was alert and talking at the hospital.

Neighbors say the couple has at least one young boy. He wasn't home at the time of the shooting and are now both safe with relatives.

Neighbors say the ex-husband would often stay at the home.

"He was there everyday. She would often say she didn't want him to be homeless or anything so she let him stay in the garage a lot of nights," one neighbor said.

The man and woman are in their 40s. Their names have not been released.

Investigators say they recovered the weapon used in this shooting inside the home.
