Two killed as truck veers off bridge to avoid cattle

MCNARY, TX

The crash happened early Thursday at a bridge on Interstate 10 eastbound near McNary. Hudspeth County sheriff's spokesman Rusty Fleming says the cattle truck overturned, allowing cattle to roam the highway as a box truck crested a nearby hill. The driver of the second truck tried to swerve to avoid the cattle and lost control of the rig, sending it over the side of the bridge. The rig crashed in flames below, killing the driver and a passenger.

The dead haven't been identified. Some cattle from the overturned truck also died. No count was available.

McNary is 55 miles southeast of El Paso.
