Water flooded the street along Richmond near Freshmeadows, about a block west of Hillcroft Thursday, thanks to the water main break. No homes have water inside, and but a number of vehicles suffered some damage where potholes formed in the street.
Crews shut off the water in the area, which allowed the high water to drain quickly, but left a number of homes without water on a hoiday when many families gather for a feast.
The repair is not expected to be quick, either. Crews estimate it could take as long as through the weekend to return things to normal.
The cause of the break is not yet known.
