Vanessa Van Dyke has chosen to grow her hair naturally. The school's dress code states that hair must be a natural color and must not be a distraction.
"A distraction to one person is not a distraction to another," said Sabrina Kent, Vanessa's mother. "You can have a kid come in with pimples on his face. Are you going to call that a distraction?"
Van Dyke says she was given a week to cut and shape her hair or be expelled. The school has not commented.
