Women, watch your purse while pumping gas

HOUSTON

The Houston Police Department wants you to be aware of 'sliders,' as they are called. They pull up to your passenger side door while you're pumping gas, gently open it and snatch your purse, which is usually sitting in the front seat.

From where you're standing at the pump, it's so hard to see and hear that many times people drive off without noticing.

"We have some cases where the individual doesn't even realize that their purse has been stolen until they start driving down the street and hear that little 'ding-ding-ding-ding'. It's not a seat belt warning. It's something to let you know that your door is ajar," explained HPD Officer Reginald Broughton.

HPD advises drivers to lock the doors while refueling and keep an eye on the surroundings.
