Man found shot to death in wrecked pickup truck in the Highlands area

HIGHLANDS, TX

The victim crashed his truck after being shot to death while driving down North Main in the Highlands area.

"I was getting ready for bed and it was about 10 o'clock and heard this big bang," said nearby resident Michelle Donley.

Donley says just a second after hearing that loud noise, she lost power at her home. She then realized something was wrong when she walked outside.

"I went in the back and checked and I could hear somebody asking the guy, trying to talk to him, 'Hey, hey can you hear me?' So I went ahead and called 911," she said.

According to sheriff's investigators, a man was shot to death while driving down North Main. The victim ended up crashing straight into a power pole, causing a few homes nearby to lose electricity.

"Right now, it's still early on in this investigation," said Sgt. Robert Spurgeon with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "We haven't got an identity of him and we don't have any idea who did the shooting."

Neighbors living nearby told authorities they heard several gunshots and then the crash. They also reported hearing a vehicle speed away.

Donley says she didn't hear the shots, but says she is alarmed this happened just yards away from her home.

"Well I was surprised. I kind of figured he passed away because of what I was hearing, but I didn't know he was shot, so hearing that was kind of surprising and unnerving," said Donley.

Right now, investigators say they have no suspect information. The motive in this shooting death is still unclear. Anyone with information is being asked to call authorities.
