Major fire consumes home in Third Ward

HOUSTON

The blaze started around 8:30pm at a two-story home off Highway 288 and Rosedale.

Two residents were inside the home at the time, but both evacuated safely. No one else was injured either.

According to the Houston Fire Department, there was so much flames shooting out of the house, firefighters went into defensive mode as soon as they arrived. Flames could been soaring into the sky from TranStar cameras.

"I saw flames leaping into the sky. The house was just engulfed. It was just horrible, horrible," witness Jackie Thornton said. "There were people there but I didn't see anyone coming out. I just walked out, heard the fire trucks, saw the numerous trucks here and the flames just leaping."

More than a half-dozen fire trucks and about 50 firefighters were on scene, and authorities had to shut down the southbound frontage road at Southmore and 288 during the fire battle.
