Person of interest sought in Stafford officer shooting

HOUSTON

Early Saturday morning, Officer Ann Carrizales pulled over a vehicle in the 12700 block of Murphy Road. Inside were three males. One opened fire on her, hitting her in the chest and face.

Fortunately, Officer Carrizales was wearing a bullet-proof vest, which likely saved her life. She was wounded, but still managed to returned fire and chase after the suspects, who took off.

The chase ended outside an apartment complex on Greenfork at Concourse near the Northwest Freeway. The 21-year-old shooter -- identified as Sergio Francisco Rodriguez -- was located and taken into custody by Missouri City police officers, who came to assist with the chase, along with DPS, Sugar Land and Houston officers.

An active warrant for aggravated assault on a peace officer was issued for the driver, 28-year-old Freddy Henriquez. And on Monday, Daniel Cruz (aka, Jose Luis Cruz) was named as a person of interest.

Cruz has 'Houstone' tattooed on the back and side of his neck, a tattoo of the city skyline on his left arm and a tattoo of a cross under his left eye.

If you know the whereabouts of Cruz or Rodriguez, you're asked to call Stafford police at 281-261-3950.

As for Officer Carrizales, Stafford police say she's home with her family recovering.
