Rig driver loses glass from its load, blocks several SB lanes of I-45 for hours

HOUSTON

It happened around 2:50am on I-45 southbound between I-10 and McKinney.

Police say there were multiple calls about an accident involving a vehicle and glass on freeway. Officers say there was a problem either with the frame or the load straps broke, causing the load of glass to shift, break and then fall out of the truck.

The glass started falling on I-45 near Dallas Street and kept falling for about 400 to 500 yards across at least three lanes of traffic.

The rig driver noticed and called the incident in to police as well. He stopped along Highway 288 and waited for a police escort to 288 near Southmore.

It took TxDOT a while for the cleanup process to begin because they needed to first figure out what kind of equipment was needed to clear the debris.

All debris was cleared around 10am and all lanes have since been reopened.
