Porter girl honored for lemonade stand to benefit lions

HOUSTON

Fifth-grader Emma Williams set up a lemonade stand this past Saturday at her grandparents' garage sale in Porter. One cup at a time, Emma raised $200 for the Niassa Lion Project in the Niassa National Reserve in northern Mozambique.

Emma put up flyers advertising her lemonade stand and the conservation project. She also convinced the principal of Robert Crippen Elementary, the school she attends, to allow her to post flyers in the school.

The Niassa Lion Project is a conservation program supported by the Houston Zoo. Fittingly, she was honored in front of the African lion habitat.
